Our history
Founded in 1841, we are one of the oldest charities working with deaf people in the UK. Celebrating deaf culture and community is an essential part of what we do. With deaf people, and in collaboration with others, we innovate and deliver services that deaf people want and need.

Our patronage
In 1876, Queen Victoria agreed to become our organisation’s patron, and we have greatly valued and appreciated our connection with the Royal Family ever since. His Majesty King Charles III became our new Royal Patron in 2025, a mark of excellence and our commitment to delivering the highest quality services.
RAD strive for a future of opportunity, achievement and equality for deaf people.
