COVID-19 (Coronavirus) – update from RAD CEOs

Tuesday 17th March 2020

The health, safety and wellbeing of RAD’s staff, volunteers, freelance workers and service users is of critical importance to us.  Following yesterday’s announcement by the UK government in its response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic and so that we can support the safety of our staff, volunteers, their families and everyone who we work with, we have today put the following measures in place:

  • Our Colchester office will be limited to two staff members working there each day (the layout of this office means that we can ensure adequate social distancing)
  • All other staff with desk-based jobs will work from home
  • Our Communication and Independent Living Services will be coordinated remotely, with coordination staff working from home:
  • The landline numbers for these services will be diverted and fully accessible, as usual
  • Access to databases will not be affected
  • There will be no change to our 24 hour emergency service
  • Our meetings and supervisions will take place remotely and via webcam, with Deaf colleagues making arrangements to access communication support remotely
  • There will be no unnecessary travel to meetings
  • We will take a sensible approach to continuing to provide face: face support for our independent living clients (our most vulnerable group)
  • Our IAG and employability services will be delivered remotely
  • All visits to Deaf Clubs have been cancelled (our community engagement team is accessible via FaceTime and email)
  • We remain supportive to our freelance communication professionals, ensuring that no working practice compromises personal wellbeing, health and safety
  • We are making ourselves available for immediate turn-around translation works to ensure accessible information is available to Deaf people

The current situation presents an uncertain and worrying time for us all. As a leading provider of services to Deaf people we remain committed to ensuring that our community receives access to the latest news and updates in BSL.  We will endeavour to provide a daily update on our social media channels. RAD remains open for business.  For more information on our services please visit the relevant page on our website. With our thanks for your continued support and wishing you all good health and wellness.
