Information for
Executors and Solicitors
If you’re managing the estate of someone who has generously included a gift to the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) in their Will, you may have some questions.
Below, we’ve provided key information to assist you, but please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Legacy team for any additional guidance.
Information we need from you
To ensure we administer all gifts responsibly and in line with Charity Commission guidelines, we kindly request the following information:
- Full name and title of the deceased
- Last known address
- Date of death
- Executor’s name and contact details
- A copy of the Will
- Schedule of assets and liabilities
- Finalised estate accounts
- Any information about the reason for the legacy, if known
Please notify us of the gift at your earliest opportunity. If the deceased was a supporter of RAD, early notification helps us prevent further communication to avoid causing unnecessary distress to family members.

Tax information
Inheritance tax
RAD is a registered charity, so most gifts left to us are exempt from inheritance tax. Exempt gifts should therefore be deducted from the estate prior to inheritance tax calculations. Additionally, if over 10% of the estate’s value is left to charity, inheritance tax may be payable at a reduced rate. We recommend consulting a tax professional for advice, as inheritance tax rules can vary.
Income tax
RAD can claim back any income tax paid during the administration process on gifts left to us. To assist with this, please provide us with a completed R185 (Estate Income) form.
Making a payment
To make a gift payment:
- By cheque: Please make cheques payable to ‘Royal Association for Deaf people’ and send to our Legacy team at the above address.
- By bank transfer: For bank transfer details, please contact our Legacy team via phone at 0300 688 2525 or email at legacy@royaldeaf.org.uk.
Thank you for helping ensure a seamless process, which enables us to honour the legacy of each supporter and continue our mission to improve the lives of the deaf community.
